About NohWorldOrder

NohWorldOrder explores the face as a site of transformation. In dialogue with Japanese Noh theatre, the series brings forth characters whose expressions seem to hover between serenity, mischief, unease and fatigue.

Sculptural structures extend the presence of each face. Discs, lines, ornaments and counterweights give every figure its own silhouette, balance and way of occupying space.

The eye moves between skin and material, between the human expression and the construction surrounding it. From another angle, a smile may become a grimace, a peaceful face reveal something less settled. The character changes as we look.

Each piece keeps something to itself. It seems to carry a history, a role or a thought that we can only partly grasp. This silent presence leaves room for an encounter, for recognising something human in an unfamiliar face.
