SpeedDevils gives form to a mechanical world driven by desire, speed and stubborn persistence. Miniature vehicles and their skeletal crews seem intent on following a road whose destination remains unknown.

Each machine has its own silhouette, temperament and traces of a possible life. A rider’s posture, a weathered body panel or a detail inside a cockpit brings a character into focus and hints at what might have happened along the way. Humour accompanies these figures even in their proximity to death.

The machine becomes a way of speaking about the body. It extends its reach, carries it forward and promises greater power and freedom. The skeletons still grip the handlebars or steering wheel, as though the desire to leave could outlast everything else.

Photography contributes to the fiction. Framing, light and viewpoint unsettle our perception of scale. For a moment, the vehicle’s presence makes us forget the miniature, until a detail returns us to the constructed object.

Between movement and stillness, SpeedDevils holds open the possibility of departure. The machines remain in place, their crews seemingly ready to take to the road again.
